Are you so stuck in the day to day that you can’t even imagine stepping back to think about growth?
Every morning you wake up with big dreams for your business. You’re going to work on it, not just in it. You’re going to think big picture, plan that launch, or finally tackle that project that’s been on your list for months.
But then the emails start flooding in. The urgent client request lands. The small fire needs putting out. And then it’s 6 PM and you’ve spent another entire day reacting instead of leading.
Why Urgent Always Wins Over Important
Without boundaries or structure, urgent tasks will always steamroll over important ones. It’s not because you’re bad at prioritizing, it’s because urgent tasks are loud and demanding. Strategic thinking and creativity are quiet and need space.
You’re not broken. Your business needs rhythms that protect space for leadership.
Every business needs CEO time, and that’s not unproductive, it’s strategic.
Think of yourself as both the pilot and the air traffic controller of your business. You’re so focused on every takeoff and landing, that you never stop to chart the actual flight path. Your business is in motion, but is it headed toward the destination you want?
The Vision to Action Framework:
You can be busy, but that doesn’t mean you’re being strategic. You need a long term vision and shorter, interim goals to meet that vision. Here’s how to bridge that gap:
Start with Your North Star: Where do you want your business to be in five years? 12 months? Not only revenue, what impact, what lifestyle, what kind of work? What does your life look like?
Break It Down: Take that annual vision and work backward. What needs to happen in the next year to move toward it? Quarter? What about this month? This week?
Create Your Leadership Rhythms:
Weekly CEO Time: Block 1-2 hours every week that are untouchable. No client calls, no email, no urgent fires. This is your time to think, plan, and move forward.
Sort Your To-Do List: Use the Eisenhower Matrix. Sort that list: Do, Defer, Delete, and Delegate. Check out my Freebie, here.
Apply the 80/20 Rule: Write down everything you do in a month and trace each task to revenue, or your KPI’s. Which of your actions create your results? Do more of those. Chances are, its a small part of your day to day that leads to big impact.
Monthly Check-ins: Once a month, look at your KPIs and measurable efforts. Ask: “Am I moving toward my long term vision, away from it, or treading water?”
Quarterly Strategy Sessions: Every quarter, step back and review the annual vision. Is it still relevant? Are you on track? Then map out the specific steps for the next three months to bridge any gaps.
The magic happens when you have space to remember and see the thread connecting your daily tasks to your quarterly goals to your long term vision. When this is in alignment, you’re not busy, you’re building something.
You don’t need more hours in the day, you need space to lead.
Tired of reacting your way through business? The difference between entrepreneurs who build strategically and those who stay stuck in the weeds isn’t willpower, it’s having accountability and a thought partner who keeps the big picture present.
